- Hi Robert. The A500 can actually be pretty good for low-end video
- titling and simple video production. You might want to look at getting a
- genlock such as AmiGen or miniGen (these are the least-expensive ones,
- maybe around $50-$100 US for a used one) that will let you overlay the
- Amiga's graphics onto a video signal (i.e. feed your camcorder's video
- signal into the genlock, overlay your graphics onto it, and output the
- whole thing to a VCR). If you have more money to spend, get a better
- genlock such as G-Lock by GVP (I think GVP was bought out?) or a
- SuperGen. I think both of these genlocks provide graphics transparency
- control (i.e. set the graphics to transparent so you can view the video
- through the graphics). You might want something for digitizing or frame
- grabbing, great if you want to have an image on your computer screen that
- you can alter to your heart's content. For example, digitize your
- wedding photos and black out your wife's teeth like I did (needless to
- say my wife wasn't happy when she saw the screen ;)
-
- I have a DCTV which is a 24-bit graphics displayer/digitizer, and it is a
- nice piece of hardware. This cost me $100 US (used), but the majority of
- the ones for sale are around $125-$175 US (again, used). I just happened
- upon a good deal.
-
- Other digitizers are DigiView Gold v4.0, which offers Dynamic Hires (4096
- colours in hires mode...quite nice). This is one of the cheaper
- digitizers, depending what you get with it. Sometimes people sell just
- the hardware and software, others sell them with cameras and lights, etc.
- so the price for this one will vary depending on what's being offered.
-
- These digitizers are alright for slow digitizing (around 10-30 seconds to
- get an image), but if you want to grab images in real time, you need a
- frame grabber. I'm less familiar with these so I can't suggest any.
-
- I think all the stuff I mentioned above works on the A500. But be sure
- before you buy anything that it does work with your computer, and that it
- does what you want. There's quite a bit to choose from.
-
- Good luck!
